Why the Change?

Recently, I received a phone call from a Duncanville citizen asking why the Suburban Newspaper had changed. I also heard through the grapevine that another citizen was calling me a traitor. I had discussed the reasons for the change at the Suburban, but let me address the issue once again. I am not a traitor, nor have I “bowed to the other side” or decided to be silent on the subject of politics.
Let me say again that we are not children, nor is Duncanville a schoolyard. Politics is not some game of dodge ball, where we choose teams and fling things at each other to see who is left standing. There are no “sides”, only citizens in our great city. We are adults who have many different opinions about how things should be handled. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to voice his or her opinion and I want the Suburban to be a platform for that dialog.
That being said, if you have an opinion on a topic, why not write a letter to the editor, or be a guest columnist. You could always just pick up the phone and give me a call. You could even send me an email or write me the old fashioned way. Just remember a few guidelines; all letters that are not signed with your name will not be published, we will not publish any personal attacks; but attacks on public officials’ policy decisions are fair game. We will not publish letters that contain profanity.
I invite everyone to join in the conversation. Your opinion matters, and you should be able to express that opinion in an environment that is non-hostile.
The Suburban Newspaper will not be published on Thursday, November 26th, so at this time the staff at the Suburban Newspaper would like to wish you a safe and “Happy Thanksgiving”!!
