DUNCANVILLE, TX – The votes have been counted and the citizens of Duncanville have spoken. On November 5th, The City of Duncanville had the following Resolution on the ballot:
“Adoption of Resolution No. 2013-062402, to execute the Project Specific Agreement to the Master Agreement Governing Major Capital Transportation Improvements Projects with Dallas County for purpose of constructing Transportation improvements to the Wintergreen Road MCIP Project 47302.”
The results were 1,107 (40.91%) FOR and 1,599 (59.09%) AGAINST. With this percentage of a win, the voters in Duncanville told their city council they were not confused when they signed the petition and took the vote on Tuesday. Council members Cliff Boyd, Stan Smith, Patrick Harvey and Mayor Pro Tem Mark Cooks had ignored the petition asking the council to void the resolution and they insisted Duncanville call an expensive special election. After the defeat, Cliff Boyd stated, “We have a process and the voters of Duncanville have spoken by the results of this election.”
The election hinged on the county being able to eminent domain part of Dr. and Mrs. Ron Dotson’s property. They and their family worked many hours to keep the project from going forward. They worked non-stop for the last five months. It was a great victory for them. Last night as the results were coming in and it was evident that they had a victory, Dr. Ron Dotson wanted this statement released….. “Citizens of Duncanville, We thank you so much for saving our homestead. Words cannot describe how much we appreciate your support! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
It is great to see the voters of Duncanville stand together to help fellow taxpayers and citizens! The next few months will tell much about which direction the city council will take. Who knows, with these results, there may be another upset…..looking forward to the elections in May.
