The time has come, and potential candidates are picking up packets at the city hall. The deadline to file is Friday, February 27, 2015 at 5:00pm. At that time the line will be drawn, and the campaigns will begin.
How will this year’s campaign be? Will the silver-tongued councilman run? Will the unemployed city councilman run? We already know one candidate that is for sure running, Patrick Harvey for City Council At Large. He started his campaign during the interviews for city boards and recently had a mail out through the city of Duncanville. What I found interesting was the fact that he did not publish the amount of money the city of Duncanville has spent since he and his three cronies arrived on the council two years ago. He also did not publish his voting records on items that have divided this city in half. I wonder why!
As the weeks go forward we will see if this once again turns into a smear campaign. Will cards be mailed throughout the town with ugly pictures of candidates? I am reminded of a partial quote by Christine de Pizan, “Causing any damage or harm to one party in order to help another party is not justice …”
Over the next few weeks we will not be sending postcards out with pictures of people eating or having a scowl on their face; however, we will be showing voting records and how this vote affected you as a citizen of Duncanville.
Good luck to each candidate, and I wish the City of Duncanville the best of luck.
