DESOTO, TX – On Wednesday, July 15, 2015, rookie Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Officer Timothy Davison was brutally slain while escorting a prisoner inside the Barry B. Telford Unit in New Boston, Texas. Representative Helen Giddings (D-Dallas) and Representative Sylvester Turner (D-Houston) offer the following joint statement to Officer Davison’s family and call for action:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Correctional Officer Timothy Davison during this most difficult time. While we do not have all of the facts of this tragedy at this time, it appears that it is time to re-think the safety and training of our correctional officers. Correctional officers are often in life threatening situations and we must do everything possible to ensure their safety through proper training, procedures, and resources.”
