State Representative Helen Giddings Begins 11th Term

DESOTO, TX – State Representative Helen Giddings (D-Dallas) began her eleventh term , on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, as Texas House Representative of District 109. Giddings was sworn in at noon, at the Texas State Capitol, in Austin, along with 149 of her colleagues. Giddings said, “It is an honor to continue to serve the constituents of District 109. Our district is one that is growing and is now one known as a gem in the southern sector of Dallas County. I am very proud of our district and the progressive initiatives in business and STEM education— advancements and innovation in these areas are what make our district unique and an attractive place to live.”
Representative Helen Giddings is eleventh in seniority in the Texas House of Representatives and serves on the Calendars and Appropriations Committees and as Vice-Chair of State Affairs. Throughout her term Representative Giddings continues to be a voice for equity and equality in public and higher education. Giddings stated, “Education, as you know, is my highest priority in the Legislature and something I care very deeply about. I will keep working on strengthening our educational system and to create legislation that will aid even more students. The children of Texas deserve a quality education, and it is our responsibility to provide it to them.”
Although Giddings agreed that there will be challenges during the 84th Legislative session, she stated “I believe that there will be some very good bills that will be passed during this session that will benefit the citizens of Texas, but the road getting there may be bumpy. I am one of 150 House members here to do a great job for the citizens of Texas— all 26,000,000 and I have no intention of letting them down.”
