Passing of Beloved DeSoto ISD Employee

Best with flowersDESOTO, TX – Kimberly Toopes Williams, a twenty-plus year employee of DeSoto ISD, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, October 25.
Kim was known and loved through the district as a helpful and fun filled person that could always be counted on to do what needed to be done. Kim was a 1981 graduate of Duncanville High School and joined DeSoto ISD in December of 1992 working in the computer lab of The Meadows Intermediate (now The Meadows Elementary). She progressed through the ranks as a principal’s administrative assistant at The Meadows before moving to the Instructional Support Center as the administrative assistant to the Director of Curriculum and then Chief Academic Officer. In 2013, Kim took on the challenge of becoming the certification specialist for the district human resources department.
Kim’s bright smile and infectious laughter was her signature as much as her Mickey Mouse collection that followed her every move. After enduring the tragic loss of her teenage daughter and later her mother, Kim reminded everyone to celebrate the time we had with loved ones. Many co-workers and friends have consistently posted on her Facebook page about how they loved working with Kim.
District systems administrator Buddy Watson was also hired in 1992 and posted: Kim, I will always remember your smiles and the love you had for everyone. I remember meeting you for the 1st time while you were working at The Meadows in their computer lab. You made me feel so welcome during my 1st year working for DeSoto ISD. I know you are having a blast with Lauren and your Mom right now.
Former math instructional supervisor Brea Ratcliff posted: Kim’s smile, laughter, and warmness greeted me when I first came to DeSoto, and it is what I will always remember about her for the rest of my life. It is a bittersweet night, but I thank God for having met her, and am glad in my heart to know that she is with the Lord and her baby girl tonight.
HR compensation coordinator Sue Land posted: My world will never be the same. Rest in peace.
DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Harris, administration, staff and students offer our condolences to the entire biological and ‘chosen’ family at this time of bereavement.
