IH-20 Frontage Roads (Main Street to Camp Wisdom Road) Public Meeting
On December 1, 2015 the Duncanville City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the need for public meetings and public hearings with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), for the purpose of completing an environmental assessment of frontage roads on IH-20 from North Main Street to Camp Wisdom Road. This project had been on hold for several years, but was in danger of losing the funding already allocated to this project.
Moving forward with the project requires TxDOT hold a Public Meeting to receive comments on the design, and requires an Environmental Assessment be performed as well. The Duncanville City Council, in conjunction with TxDOT, and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), will then determine the limits of construction and other key elements, such as bridge enhancements, landscaping and other aesthetic features.
The addition of the frontage roads will improve mobility and safety and reduce cut-through traffic along and adjacent to the freeway corridor. Existing homes on the north side of the IH-20 corridor will benefit by the installation of sound walls and sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety. The addition of frontage roads, especially on the south side of IH-20, will also significantly enhance economic development.
In October 2015, the City contracted with Insight Research Corporation to perform a twenty (20) year economic impact analysis of the service road expansion on the south side of IH-20 between Main Street and Cockrell Hill Road. The analysis concluded that the addition of eastbound service roads, combined with infrastructure and beautification efforts in the Camp Wisdom Road area, would have a significant impact not only to Duncanville, but also the entire southern portion of Dallas County. The City of Duncanville would experience an increase of approximately $18.9 million in direct and indirect tax revenue while creating and/or retaining 397 more full-time jobs over a 20-year time period.
A Public Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. (Open House) with a 6:00 p.m. Presentation at the Hilton Garden Inn. TxDOT and City staff will be on hand to discuss the project, answer questions and seek public input on the project. Your participation is needed!
