Transparency Star Award – Congratulations to the Finance Department for earning a Transparency Star in Traditional Finances from the Texas Comptroller’s Office! The City achieved specific transparency goals through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program, which recognizes entities for their outstanding efforts in making their spending and revenue information available to the public, and providing easy online access to important financial data. The Comptroller’s office launched the Transparency Stars program in March 2016 to recognize cities, counties and school districts making important strides to greater government transparency. Local government entities can apply for stars in the areas of: Traditional Finances, Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development, Public Pensions, and Debt Obligations. The city is working on applications and documentation for two additional transparency stars at this time. Our thanks to the Finance staff led by Finance Director Richard Summerlin and Assistant Director Tia Pettis, and special thanks to Accountants Jamie Smith and Borhan Uddin who completed the application process, ensured the data was available as required, and submitted the necessary backup documentation. Kudos to them!
