DISD Board of Trustees Approves 2014-2015 Dress Code Changes

The Board of Trustees voted on August 11 to change the Standard of Dress policy for students for the 2014-2015 school year. The changes will take effect immediately. Listed below are the notable changes. The Code of Conduct is being updated and it will be available here shortly.

Grooming Code
Hair – No changes

Facial Hair – Change. Must be neat, clean, closely trimmed and not a distraction.

Earrings – Change. Boys may wear earrings.

Body Piercing and other items – Added exclusion of body piercing spacers, gauges, cones, and similar items.

Dress Code
General – All articles of clothing must be hemmed.

Tops (shirts, blouses, sweaters) – Change. No restriction of colors. Shirts without collars must be of a solid color and may not contain logos, emblems, or designs. Bottom of top must reach below the top of the pant/skirt. Logos and designs on collared shirts are restricted to content that is not lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene. Cannot depict or advertise tobacco products, cult or gang related, alcoholic beverages, drugs or other controlled substances. Spirit shirts with prior approval of the campus principal may be worn at any time.

Shoes – No changes

Hats/Hoods – No changes

Bottoms –Change. Pants/Capri pants, skirts, dresses, and jumpers must reach the bend of the knee. Pants must be constructed of substantial solid material. Denim is allowed. Grades PK – 4 continue to be allowed to wear shorts and skorts.

Belts – Change. No longer required.
