DESOTO, TX — DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees swore in elected members and then selected new officers at the May 26 Board Meeting. Both candidates ran unopposed allowing the district to cancel the election scheduled for May 9.
Newcomer Sandre Moncriffe will occupy Place 7. Mrs. Moncriffe, a lawyer by trade, challenged parents to get to know their student’s teachers and campus staff, described her guiding philosophy as what is in the students’ best interests – focusing on who we do things for, not just what we do.
Donald Gant now occupies Place 6. Gant is starting his 6th term on the DeSoto Board, covering 18 years since 1997. He is the senior member of the current board and thanked those pioneers before him including Curtistene McCowan and Dr. Janice Pettis-Ingram who were in the audience.

He has served on the Board since 2009, at the time the youngest elected official in Dallas County, and has served as President the past four years. During that time he completed his undergrad and law degrees from SMU and began a career as a real estate finance lawyer in Dallas. He quoted Shakespeare’s St. Crispin’s Day speech from the play Henry V, when Henry rouses his men by expressing his confidence that they would triumph, and that the ‘band of brothers’ fighting that day would be able to boast each year on St. Crispin’s Day of their glorious battle’ and encouraged the Board and administration to fight the good fight for the students of DeSoto ISD.
Following the swearing in, the Board adjourned to executive session and returned with the following election of officers:
