DESOTO, TX – Congratulations to East Middle School eighth-grader Courtney Smith for winning the DeSoto ISD Spelling Bee! After nine rounds of competition, Courtney correctly spelled ‘idiopathic’ to finalize the win!
Courtney beat out nine other finalists from DeSoto ISD elementary and middle schools in grades 4-8 and will now compete in the county-level spelling bee in February to attempt to advance to the 57th Annual Dallas Morning News Regional Bee in March.
Woodridge Elementary’s Maya Hill will be the DeSoto ISD alternate for the county bee.
