Cedar Hill Recreation Center presented Community Outreach Award

CEDAR HILL, TX – The Cedar Hill Recreation Center received the Community Outreach Award from the Celebrating Life Foundation for their continued partnership in support of the Sister to Sister Fitness Festival. The Recreation Center has facilitated the event since 2010.
“Overall health and wellness is so critical when it come to our ability to fight disease. Therefore educating people about health lifestyles is a community effort. This year we wanted to honor those that have been in the forefront of our effort for breast cancer awareness,” said Sylvia Dunnavant, Founder of the Celebrating Life Foundation.
The Celebrating Life Foundation honored the Cedar Hill Recreation Center, Dr. Cynthia Mickens – Carlton Methodist Health System, Ragina Ireland – Making Chemo Bearable, Lucinda Butler – Upclose & Personal Fitness, Bert Williams – USAFA, and Janice Workcuff with Angels Surviving Cancer; during a recent reception at the African American Museum for the traveling photo exhibit, Transformation & Triumph. The combination photo and art exhibit honors breast cancer survivors and will be on display until December 31st.
“Many times we forget about breast cancer awareness after October 31st, but the individual and organizations that we honored are commitment to promoting health and wellness all year long,” said Dunnavant
The Celebrating Life Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to educating the African American community and women of color about the risks of breast cancer, and the benefits of early detection and treatment. The next Sister to Sister Fitness Festival is scheduled for Oct. 4, 2014 at the Cedar Hill Recreation Center, located at 310 E. Parkerville Road, Cedar Hill, Texas.
